WHAT OUR AGRONOMISTS GET ASKED ON FARM...

You Asked, We Answered

HOW LONG DOES EASYLURE SWD ATTRACTANT LAST IN THE TRAP FOR?

The EasyLure SWD attractant is made from apple cider vinegar as its base ingredient. Apples have a lower pectin content than grapes and as a result are more stable in a liquid form and less likely to congeal or evaporate in warm weather. We often see EasyLure SWD attractant lasting for up to 10 weeks before it needs replacing. This can vary depending on temperature and pest pressure, so ensure you check your traps regularly and replace when the volume of lure is too low or the colour has changed.

WHEN SHOULD I START TRAPPING?

For the majority of fruit growers, trapping for SWD usually begins before the fruiting stage of growth. Some research suggests from colour change, but our research shows that pest populations can begin to increase in the pests natural habitat if the weather allows. In high pressure situations we recommend maintaining monitoring traps 12 months of the year to truly understand your population pressure of SWD.

WHERE SHOULD MY TRAPS BE PLACED?

For best guidance on trap geography, check out our blog posts detailing the research we have carried out on location for best results. The traps need to be surrounding your crop to detect incoming flights of SWD as well as in native habitats such as wood blocks and thick hedges before and after your main cropping period.

WILL TRAPPING IN MY CROP ATTRACT SWD INTO MY CROP?

EasyLure SWD is made from the same volatiles that are given off in ripe and over ripe fruit. This is what makes it so effective at catching SWD. Good crop hygiene and tight picking schedules are vital to reducing your SWD pressure, this is more likely to bring SWD into the crop rather than an EasyLure SWD attractant.
